Places to Eat/Drink

From my limited exposure to eating out in Kalamazoo, most of the more upscale dining facilities tend to be overpriced and really not all that good.

Highly Recommended

Bell's Eccentric Cafe

355 E Kalamazoo Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49007
(269) 382-2332

Cosmo's Cucina/O'Duffy's Pub

804 W Vine St, Kalamazoo, MI 49008
(269) 344-5666

This is my all-time favorite place to eat in Kalamazoo. With whatever you decide to order for dinner, be sure and get the Poached Pear Salad if it's on the menu. This wonderful salad contains perfectly poached pears, sprinkled with goat cheese and some toasted, spiced pecans, which impart a slight garam masala flavor.

Despite the fact that barely across the street is a newer TownePlace Suites Kalamazoo, this is a nice, basic hotel. Because this hotel does not have an exercise room, residents are able to work out across the street at the Bronson Athletic Club (BAC). This is one of the finest gyms I've been to complete with an indoor running track and a 25-yard, six-lane indoor pool. If there is any reason to stay in this hotel, it is for the access to the BAC. If you stay at the TownePlace Suites Kalamazoo, the same access does not apply.
